DO YOU HEAR HIS VOICE????

You are going to have a labour case at work today

I heard this clearly like it was whispered in my ears one early morning on my way to work. The funny thing is that I was on a bike and I wasn’t doing anything spiritual. But I heard it clearly and I just shrugged it off like it was nothing.

Fast forward to some hours later, a woman presented at almost full dilation and she had a baby. I was shocked when my colleague came to tell me we had a labour case because I was just so sure it was my mind playing tricks on me.

God really do talk to us and this is just one example out of many I can give.

Let me back up a little bit.

Just before the incident on the bike, I found myself at crossroads where I needed to take life changing decisions. However I have learnt and I am still learning that anything done outside God’s will is zero so I decided to wait on God for direction.

I took out time to fast and pray and I started getting the nudge to go in a particular direction which was not really what I wanted. The more I stalled the more it became clearer, but I was still waiting for confirmation from someone else. I don’t know why I just felt it wasn’t God, most likely because it wasn’t what I wanted.

I am sure God was just laughing at me and giving me side eye. I was still at this when the incident on the bike happened and it got my attention because He was trying to confirm to me that He was the one that gave the first instruction.

Immediately I set the ball rolling and I started acting on his instructions and I just felt this peace and assurance that everything will fall in place and it did.

Hearing from God is not rocket science, God wants to speak to us, but most times we are always too busy to listen to him. I used to look at people that say “God told me…..” like special people until I realised God can talk to me too.

What I am trying to say is that hearing God’s voice is not hard.

In order to hear Him, you have to recognize his voice especially in this noisy generation. Everyone has a voice and everyone is talking, however you have to learn to single out his voice out of many. You can only do this i.e recognize his voice by spending adequate time with him.

By the time my daughter was about six weeks old she could recognize my voice and that was a product of proximity. We were always together.

Same thing with God, you only recognize his voice when you spend time with him.

“The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.” John‬ ‭10:3-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God speaks to us through his word.I personally have never heard God talk to me in an audible voice but one of the ways I hear him is through the word. I must say this is the safest and surest way. Every instruction has to align with the word of God. He is not an author of Confusion. He won’t tell you to do something contrary to his word.

God can also talk to us through our thoughts, some people call this Inner witness.

Hearing God speak this way is based on Intimacy and the beautiful thing about it is that the more you spend time with him, the more you recognise his voice , the more it becomes easier.

Perhaps the greatest thing that hinder most people is the fear of distinguishing their thoughts from that inspired by the holy Spirit.

Most times, people ask the question “How do I know it is God and its not just my thoughts or the devil?”

“But solid food is for the mature, whose spiritual senses perceive heavenly matters. And they have been adequately trained by what they’ve experienced to emerge with understanding of the difference between what is truly excellent and what is evil and harmful.” Hebrews‬ ‭5:14‬ ‭TPT‬‬

The key word here is “adequately trained”, constant use is how we sharpen our spiritual senses.

Take a simple issue and seek God’s face about it. A lot of people want to start hearing from God on the big things but its better to start with the everyday things. Like what to wear, which route to take to work etc then you can move on to the big things.

We were never meant to navigate this world on our own, God knows the end from the beginning and so getting instructions from him will save us a lot of time and energy.
